Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to set out on a journey, he would say, "O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from hardship on the journey and from sorrow upon return. O Allah, fold up the earth for us and make the journey easy for us."When he intended to return, he would say, "We are returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord."When he entered upon his family, he would say, "Repenting, repenting, returning to our Lord, leaving no sin upon us."
كان رسول الله ﷺ، إذا أراد أن يخرج إلى سفر قال: اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر، والخليفة في الأهل، اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الضبنة في السفر، والكآبة في المنقلب، اللهم اطولنا الأرض، وهون علينا السفر وإذا أراد الرجوع قال: آيبون، تائبون، عابدون، لربنا حامدون وإذا دخل أهله قال: توبا توبا، لربنا أوبا، لا يغادر علينا حوبا.
Ahmad narrated it (2311), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (2716) via Abu Ahwas, and Hakim (1/488) via Zaida bin Qudama, both of them from Simak bin Harb, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Except that Hakim confined himself to the portion about entering upon one's family.Hakim said, "This is a hadith that is sahih according to the two Shaykhs, because Bukhari alone relied on Ikrima as evidence, and Muslim alone relied on Simak bin Harb."Ibn Hajar said in Nataij Afkar, "This hadith is hasan."I say, it is as he said. Simak bin Harb is truthful, except that his narration specifically from Ikrima has been criticized. However, Daraqutni affirmed that what Shuba, Thawri, and Abu Ahwas narrated from him, their hadiths from him are sound.
