The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever forgets to mention Allah at the start of his meal, let him say when he remembers, 'In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end.' For he will then start his meal afresh, and the evil one will be prevented from sharing in what he had been taking from it."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من نسي أن يذكر الله في أول طعامه فليقل حين يذكر: بسم الله في أوله وآخره فإنه يستقبل طعامه جديدا، ويمنع الخبيث ما كان يصيب منه.
Ibn Hibban (5213), Ibn Sunni (460), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (10/210) all narrated it via Khalifa bin Khayat, who said, Umar bin Ali Muqaddami told us, who said, I heard Musa Juhani say, Qasim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Masud informed me, from his father, from his grandfather Abdullah bin Masud, and he then narrated it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. There is disagreement over whether Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Masud actually heard directly from his father, but the correct view, held by the majority, is that he did hear a number of hadiths from him.
