I attended the Eid al-Adha prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the prayer ground. When he finished his sermon, he descended from his pulpit, and a ram was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slaughtered it with his own hand and said, "In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. This is on behalf of myself and on behalf of those of my community who did not offer a sacrifice."
Reported by Abu Dawud (2810), Tirmidhi (1521), and Ahmad (14837, 14895), all through the route of Amr bin Abu Amr, from Muttalib, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, so-and-so, as previously mentioned. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Muttalib, who is Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab al-Qurashi al-Makhzumi al-Madani, for he is truthful and his hadith is good. The discussion of him is elaborated upon in the chapter on sacrificial animals.
