I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while a man was praying. Then the man supplicated, "O Allah, I ask You by virtue of the fact that to You belongs all praise, there is no god but You, the Bestower, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of Majesty and Honor, Ever-Living, Sustainer of all."The Prophet ﷺ said, "He has called upon Allah by His Greatest Name, the name by which when He is called upon He answers, and when He is asked by it He gives."
Reported by Abu Dawud (1495) and Nasai (1300), who graded it sahih. Ibn Hibban (893) and Hakim (1/503–504) also reported it, all of them through Khalaf bin Khalifa, from Hafs the nephew of Anas, from Anas bin Malik, who related it.Its chain of transmission includes Khalaf bin Khalifa, and although he is among the narrators used by Muslim, he suffered confusion in his later years. However, he has been corroborated, as is explained in the Book of Prayer.
