The companions of the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "When we are with you and you speak to us, our hearts soften. But when we leave you, we busy ourselves with our wives and children, and we do this and that."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If you remained in that state continuously, the angels would shake hands with you."
أن أصحاب النبي ﷺ وقالوا للنبي ﷺ: إنا إذا كنا عندك فحدثتنا رقت قلوبنا، فإذا خرجنا من عندك، عافسنا النساء والصبيان وفعلنا وفعلنا فقال النبي ﷺ: إن تلك الساعة لو تدومون عليها لصافحتكم الملائكة.
Ahmad (12796) and Bukhari in Tarikh al-Kabir (3/37) both narrated it through various routes from Thabit Bunani, from Anas bin Malik, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Bazzar in Kashf Astar (3234), Abu Yaala (3035), and Ibn Hibban (344) all narrated it through the route of Abdul-Razzaq, who said, "Mamar informed us," from Qatada, from Anas, who related it. Its chain of transmission is also sahih.
