He witnessed the sermon of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Arafah during the Farewell Pilgrimage. The Prophet ﷺ said, "People, by Allah, I do not know whether I will meet you again after this day of mine, in this place of mine. May Allah have mercy on whoever hears my words today and retains them. Many a bearer of knowledge has no understanding of it himself, and many a bearer of knowledge carries it to one who understands it better than he does.Know that your wealth and your blood are sacred to one another, as sacred as this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours.Know that the heart of a believer does not harbor malice toward three things: sincerity of action for the sake of Allah, giving sincere counsel to those in authority, and adhering to the community of the Muslims, for their call encompasses those behind them."
Darimi (233) narrated it from Sulayman bin Dawud Zahrani, who reported to us, Ismail, who is Ibn Jafar, told us, Amr bin Abu Amr told us, from Abdul-Rahman bin Huwayrith, from Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mutim, from his father, and he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Amr bin Abu Amr and his teacher, for the two of them make the hadith hasan. Ahmad (16754) narrated it through another route from Amr bin Abu Amr, and it does not contain, "Your wealth and your blood are sacred..."Something similar in meaning was narrated from Hudhaym bin Amr, that he witnessed the Messenger of Allah at the Farewell Pilgrimage, where he said, "Indeed, your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to you, as sacred as this day of yours, as sacred as this month of yours, and as sacred as this land of yours." Ahmad (18966) and Ibn Khuzayma (2808) both narrated it through the route of Jareer bin Abdul-Hameed, from Mughira (who is Ibn Miqsam Dabbi), from Musa bin Ziyad bin Hudhaym Saadi, from his father, from his grandfather Hudhaym bin Amr, and he mentioned it. Musa bin Ziyad bin Hudhaym had no one narrate from him except Mughira, and his father Ziyad had no one narrate from him except his son Musa. No one deemed either of them reliable except Ibn Hibban, who mentioned them in his book of reliable narrators. For this reason Hafiz bin Hajar said of them, "Acceptable," meaning when corroborated, otherwise the hadith is weak, and I have not found any corroboration for them.Something similar in meaning was also narrated from Makhshi bin Hujayr, who said, my father told me that the Prophet of Allah
delivered a sermon at the Farewell Pilgrimage and said, "O people, what land is this?" They said, "A sacred land." He said, "What month is this?" They said, "A sacred month." He said, "What day is this?" They said, "A sacred day." He said, "Indeed, your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to you, as sacred as this day of yours, as this month of yours, as sacred as this land of yours, so let whoever is present convey this to whoever is absent. Do not revert after me into disbelievers, striking one another's necks."Harith bin Abu Usama narrated it (Bughyat Bahith, 386), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (40/4-41), both through routes from Ikrima bin Ammar, who said, Makhshi bin Hujayr told me, my father told me, and he mentioned it. Hujayr is Ibn Abu Hujayr Hilali or Hanafi, and he is also called Hujr without the diminutive form, as Ibn Hajar recorded it in al-Isaba. However, Hakim narrated it (3/470) and said regarding it, Makhshi bin Hujr bin Adi, from his father, but this is a mistake, for Hujayr is not the son of Adi. Ibn Manda also gave his biography in Marifat Sahaba and said, Hujayr bin Abu Hujayr, Abu Makhshi, saw the Prophet
at the Farewell Pilgrimage, then he mentioned the hadith. Ibn Manda said, this is a strange chain, it is not known except through this route. However, Ibn Hajar said, "Its chain is acceptable," except that I have not found a biography for Makhshi bin Hujayr. Haythami likewise said in al-Majma (270/3), "I have not found a biography for Makhshi bin Hujayr, so it appears that he is unknown as an individual, since no one narrated from him except Ikrima bin Ammar, and Ibn Hibban did not mention him among his reliable narrators."The hadiths in this chapter confirm the gravity of the prohibition against shedding blood, taking wealth, and violating honor in Makkah, and they warn against doing so. It has come down in the reports, "The passing away of this world with everything in it is of less consequence to Allah than the killing of a Muslim." I have cited some of these hadiths in Aqdiyat Rasul Allah
