The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "Which land is most sacred?"It was said, "Mecca."He asked, "Which month is most sacred?"They answered, "Dhul-Hijjah."He asked, "Which day is most sacred?"They answered, "The Day of Sacrifice, the day of the Greater Pilgrimage."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Your blood and your property are sacred to you, until you meet your Lord, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. So I do not consider it right that any blood be shed within the sanctuary of Allah."
Abu Yaala narrated it in his Musnad, as cited in Matalib Aliyah (1133), and Tabarani in Awsat (82), both of them through the route of Abu Ubayda bin Fudayl bin Iyad, who said, Malik bin Suayr narrated to us, who said, Firat bin Ahnaf narrated to us, who said, my father narrated to me, from Abdullah bin Zubayr, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Malik bin Suayr, for his hadith is hasan. Firat bin Ahnaf is disputed, but his hadith is hasan as long as it does not show extremist Shia leanings.
