The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ibrahim made Mecca a sanctuary, and I declare Medina a sanctuary in the same way that he did."The Prophet ﷺ forbade cutting down its trees, beating their leaves off, or capturing its birds.
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إن إبراهيم حرم مكة وإني أحرم المدينة بمثل ما حرم. قال: ونهى النبي ﷺ أن يعضد شجرها أو يخبط، أو يؤخذ طيرها.
Ibn Khaythama narrated it in his Tarikh (1320-1321), and Tahawi in Maani Athar (4/193), both through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Abu Hazim, from Kathir bin Zayd, from Walid bin Rabah, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Its chain is hasan because of the narrators involved, for they are all good narrators.
