On the day of the conquest of Makkah, when the Prophet ﷺ gave gifts to Quraysh, the Ansar said, "By Allah, this is truly astonishing. Our swords are still dripping with the blood of Quraysh, yet our spoils are being handed over to them."Word of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he summoned the Ansar and asked, "What is this that has reached me about you?"They were people who did not lie, so they replied, "It is exactly as you have heard."He said, "Are you not pleased that the people return to their homes with the spoils, while you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah? If the Ansar were to travel down one valley or mountain pass, I would travel down the valley or mountain pass of the Ansar."
قالت الأنصار يوم فتح مكة، وأعطى قريشا: والله إن هذا لهو العجب، إن سيوفنا تقطر من دماء قريش، وغنائمنا ترد عليهم، فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ فدعا الأنصار، قال: فقال: ما الذي بلغني عنكم؟ وكانوا لا يكذبون، فقالوا: هو الذي بلغك، قال: أولا ترضون أن يرجع الناس بالغنائم إلى بيوتهم، وترجعون برسول الله إلى بيوتكم؟ لو سلكت الأنصار واديا، أو شعبا، لسلكت وادي الأنصار أو شعبهم.
