When Zaynab's waiting period ended, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Zayd, "Mention me to her in marriage."Zayd said, "So I went off until I came to her while she was kneading her dough. When I saw her, she became so magnified in my heart that I could not even look at her, knowing that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had mentioned her. So I turned my back to her and stepped backward on my heels, and I said, 'Zaynab, the Messenger of Allah has sent me to mention you.'"She replied, "I will not do anything until I consult my Lord."She then went to her place of prayer, and the Quran was revealed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and entered upon her without permission.He said, "I remember that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fed us bread and meat when the day was well advanced. The people left, but Some men remained behind in the house talking after the meal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out, and I followed him. He began going around to the apartments of his wives, greeting them with peace, and they would say, 'Messenger of Allah, how did you find your wife?'"He said, "I do not know whether I informed him that the people had left, or whether he informed me. He went until he entered the house, and I went to enter with him, but he dropped the curtain between me and him, and the verse of hijab was revealed. The people were admonished with what they were admonished."
لما انقضت عدة زينب قال رسول الله ﷺ لزيد: فاذكرها علي. قال: فانطلق زيد حتى أتاها وهي تخمر عجينها، قال: فلما رأيتها عظمت في صدري، حتى ما أستطيع أن أنظر إليها أن رسول الله ﷺ ذكرها، فوليتها ظهري ونكصت على عقبي، فقلت: يا زينب، أرسل رسول الله لا يذكرك، قالت: ما أنا بصانعة شيئا حتى أوامر ربي، فقامت إلى مسجدها: ونزل القرآن، وجاء رسول الله ﷺ فدخل عليها بغير إذن، قال: فقال: ولقد رأيتنا أن رسول الله ﷺ أطعمنا الخبز واللحم حين أمتد النهار، فخرج الناس وبقي رجال يتحدثون في البيت بعد الطعام، فخرج رسول الله ﷺ واتبعته، فجعل يتتبع حجر نسائه يسلم عليهن، ويقلن: يارسول الله، كيف وجدت أهلك؟ قال: فما أدري أنا أخبرته أن القوم قد خرجوا أو أخبرني، قال: فانطلق حتى دخل البيت فذهبت أدخل معه معه فألقى الستر بيني وبينه، ونزل الحجاب، قال: ووعظ القوم بما و عضوا به.
