Anas bin Malik reported,

A son of Abu Talha by Umm Sulaym died. She said to her family, "Do not tell Abu Talha about his son until I am the one to inform him."He came home, and she brought him his evening meal, which he ate and drank. Then she adorned herself for him more beautifully than she had ever done before, and he was intimate with her. When she saw that he was satisfied and had taken his pleasure with her, she said, "Abu Talha, tell me, if some people lent something to a household and then asked for their loan back, would the household have the right to refuse them?"He replied, "No."She said, "Then count your son as a loan returned to Allah."He grew angry and said, "You left me until I had defiled myself, and only then did you tell me about my son."He set out and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah bless the two of you in what remained of your night together."She conceived. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a journey, and she was with him. Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to Madinah from a journey, he would not enter it at night. As they drew near Madinah, her labor pains began, so Abu Talha stayed behind with her while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on.Abu Talha said, "You know, my Lord, that it pleases me to go out with Your Prophet when he goes out and to enter with him when he enters, yet I have been held back as You see."Umm Sulaym said, "Abu Talha, I no longer feel what I was feeling. Let us go on."So they continued. When they arrived, her labor pains returned and she gave birth to a boy. My mother said to me, "Anas, do not let anyone nurse him until you take him in the morning to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."When morning came, I carried him and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I found him with a branding iron in his hand. When he saw me, he said, "Has Umm Sulaym given birth?"I said, "Yes."He set down the branding iron. I came forward and placed the boy in his lap. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for some ajwah dates of Madinah, chewed them in his mouth until they were softened, then put the mixture into the child's mouth. The infant began to smack his lips at the taste.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Look at how the Ansar love dates."He then wiped the child's face and named him Abdullah.

عن أنس قال

مات ابن لأبي طلحة من أم سليم، فقالت لأهلها: لا تحدثوا أبا طلحة بابنه حتى أكون أنا أحدثه. قال: فجاء، فقربت إليه عشاء، فأكل وشرب، فقال: ثم تصنعت له أحسن ما كانت تصنع قبل ذلك، فوقع بها، فلما رأت أنه قد شبع وأصاب منها، قالت: يا أبا طلحة، أرأيت لو أن قوما أعاروا عاريتهم أهل بيت فطلبوا عاريتهم ألهم أن يمنعوهم؟ قال: لا. قالت: فاحتسب ابنك. قال: فغضب، وقال: تركتني حتى تلطخت، ثم أخبرتني بابني، فانطلق حتى أتى رسول الله ﷺ، فأخبره بما كان، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: بارك الله لكما في غابر ليلتكما قال: فحملت. قال: فكان رسول الله ﷺ في سفر وهي معه، وكان رسول الله ﷺ إذا أتى المدينة من سفر لا يطرقها طروقا. فدنوا من المدينة، فضربها المخاض، فاحتبس عليها أبو طلحة، وانطلق رسول الله ﷺ قال: يقول أبو طلحة: إنك لتعلم يا رب إنه يعجبني أن أخرج مع نبيك إذا خرج، وأدخل معه إذا دخل، وقد احتبست بما ترى قال: تقول أم سليم: يا أبا طلحة ما أجد الذي كنت أجد. انطلق. فانطلقنا. قال: وضربها المخاض حين قدما، فولدت غلاما، فقالت لي أمي: يا أنس لا يرضعه أحد حتى تغدو به على رسول الله ﷺ، فلما أصبح احتملته، فانطلقت به إلى رسول الله ﷺ قال: فصادفته ومعه ميسم فلما رآني قال: لعل أم سليم ولدت؟ قلت: نعم. فوضع الميسم قال: وجئت به، فوضعته في حجره، ودعا رسول الله ﷺ بعجوة من عجوة المدينة، فلاكها في فيه، حتى ذابت ثم قذفها في في الصبي، فجعل الصبي يتلمظها، قال: فقال رسول الله ﷺ: انظروا إلى حب الأنصار للتمر قال: فمسح وجهه، وسماه عبد الله.
