Tirmidhi (2139) narrated it from Muhammad bin Humayd Razi and Saeed bin Yaqub, who both said, Yahya bin Dirays told us, from Abu Mawdud, from Sulayman Taymi, from Abu Uthman Nahdi, from Salman, and he related it, then said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from the hadith of Salman. We do not know it except through the hadith of Yahya bin Dirays. Abu Mawdud refers to two men, one of whom is called Fiddah, and the other Abdul-Aziz bin Abu Sulayman. One of them was from Basra, and the other from Madinah, and they lived in the same era. The Abu Mawdud who narrated this hadith is named Fiddah, and he is the Basran one." End of quote.I say, Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography in Jarh wa Tadil (7/93), saying, "He narrated from Hasan and Sulayman Taymi, and Yahya bin Dirays and Ali bin Hasan Wasiti narrated from him. I heard my father say this, and he said, he came to Rayy, having originally been from Khurasan, and he settled there, and he is daif." Abu Zura said, "Abu Mawdud Basri, whose name is Fiddah, narrated from Hasan, and he was in Rayy."I say, its chain is hasan on account of Fiddah Basri, for there is no harm in him when it comes to corroborating narrations, and perhaps this is why Tirmidhi graded it hasan.
