I was playing with the other boys when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came along, so I hid behind a door. He came up and gave me a light smack and said, "Go and call Muawiya for me."I went, then returned and said, "He is eating."He then said to me again, "Go and call Muawiya for me."I went, then came back and said, "He is eating."So he said, "May Allah never fill his belly."
كنت ألعب مع الصبيان فجاء رسول الله ﷺ فتواريت خلف باب، قال: فجاء فحطأني حطأة، وقال: اذهب وادع لي معاوية قال: فجئت فقلت: هو يأكل، قال: ثم قال لي: اذهب وادع لي معاوية قال: فجئت فقلت: هو يأكل، فقال: لا أشبع الله بطنه.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (96:2604) through several routes from Umaya bin Khalid, who said, Shuba narrated to us, from Abu Hamza the Butcher, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Ahmad also narrated it (2651) through another route from Ibn Abbas in abridged form, in which Ibn Abbas said, "And he was his scribe," meaning Muawiya. As for his statement, "he pushed me with a shove," the hataa is a push with the palm of the hand.Regarding his statement, "may Allah never fill his belly," this supplication against him will become for him on the Day of Resurrection a prayer, a zakat, and a means of drawing near, as has come in the Sahihayn and other collections, among them the hadith of Anas bin Malik as a saying of the Prophet, "O Umm Salim, do you not know that I have set a condition with my Lord, that I said to Him, 'I am only a human being, I am pleased as human beings are pleased, and I grow angry as human beings grow angry.' So whoever among my nation I invoke against with a supplication that he does not deserve, let it become for him a purification, a zakat, and a means of drawing near, by which he is brought closer to Him on the Day of Resurrection."
