The Prophet ﷺ said after Maez bin Malik had been stoned, "Ask forgiveness for Maez bin Malik."They said, "May Allah forgive Maez bin Malik."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "He has repented with such a Tawba that, were it to be distributed among an entire nation, it would suffice them all."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hudud (22:1695) from Muhammad bin Ala Hamdani, who said, "Yahya bin Yaala - that is, Ibn Harith Muharibi - narrated to us from his father, from Ghaylan - that is, Ibn Jami Muharibi - from Alqama bin Marthad, from Sulayman bin Burayda, from his father," who said, and then related it, in a long hadith concerning the story of stoning. The hadith in full is mentioned in the Book of Hudud.Note: In the printed edition of Sahih Muslim, the phrase "from his father" was omitted, meaning Yahya bin Yaala from his father, from Ghaylan. The correct reading is what we have established from Tuhfat Ashraf and Nukat Ziraf, which is also what Qadi Iyad confirmed to be correct.
