We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he noticed a stray date. He picked it up and gave it to a beggar, saying, "Had you not come to it, it would have come to you."
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ فرأى تمرة عائرة فأعطاها سائلا، وقال: لو لم تأتها لأتتك.

Ibn Abu Asim related it in Sunnah (265), from Shayban bin Farroukh, who said, Abu Awana narrated to us, from Amash, from Abu Qays Abdul-Rahman bin Tharwan, from Huzayll bin Shurahbil, from Ibn Umar, and he mentioned it. Bayhaqi transmitted it by this same route in Qada wal-Qadar (2:470). Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3240). Its chain is hasan because of Shayban bin Farroukh, who is "truthful." Muslim and the authors of the four Sunan works narrated from him. Likewise in the chain is Abu Qays Abdul-Rahman bin Tharwan Awdi, about whom Abu Hatim made some criticism, though his hadith is hasan, and Bukhari and other authors of the Sunan works narrated from him.On this subject there is also a report from Umar bin Khattab, that he gave a sermon in Syria in which he related from the Messenger of Allah , who said, "Be moderate in seeking worldly provision, for Allah has guaranteed your provisions, and everyone is made easy toward the work for which he was created. Seek the help of Allah in your deeds, for "Allah erases what He wills and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Mother of the Book" [Rad 13:39]." Bayhaqi related it in Qada wal-Qadar (2:459) from the hadith of Ibn Wahb, who said, Saeed bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Amya informed me, from Saaib bin Mihjan, one of the people of Syria who had met the companions of the Messenger of Allah
, that Umar bin Khattab gave a sermon, and he mentioned it. Saeed bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Amya was not declared reliable by anyone. Ibn Hibban merely mentioned him in Thiqat (6:354) and said, "Ibn Wahb narrated from him." I say, this means he is "unknown." As for his teacher Saaib bin Mihjan, I could not identify who he is.There is also a marfu report from Abu Saeed, "If any one of you were to flee from his provision, it would catch up with him just as death catches up with him." Ibn Adi related it in Kamil (6:2045), from Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Abdul-Khaliq, who said, Husayn bin Ali Sadai narrated to us, who said, my father narrated to me, who said, Fudayl bin Marzuk narrated to us, from Atiya, from Abu Saeed, and he mentioned it. Fudayl bin Marzuk and his teacher are both daif. There is also a marfu report from Ibn Masud, "There is no deed that brings one closer to Paradise but that I have commanded you to do it, and no deed that brings one closer to the Fire but that I have forbidden you from it. Let none of you consider his provision slow in coming. Jibreel
cast into my heart that none of you shall leave this world until he has received his provision in full. So fear Allah, O people, and be moderate in seeking provision. If any of you finds his provision slow in coming, let him not seek it through disobedience to Allah, for what is with Allah cannot be attained through disobedience to Him." Hakim related it (2:4), and from him Bayhaqi in Qada wal-Qadar (2:463), from Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, who said, Ahmad bin Ibrahim bin Milhan informed us, from Ibn Bukayr, who said, Layth bin Saad narrated to me, from Khalid bin Yazid, from Saeed bin Abu Hilal, from Saeed bin Abu Umaya Thaqafi, from Yunus bin Bukayr, from Ibn Masud, and he mentioned it. As for this Saeed bin Abu Umaya, I could not find anyone who gave his biography, and the report has also been narrated as a stopped statement attributed to Ibn Masud.
