Ibn Abu Mulayka reported,

We came to Ibn Abbas, and he said, "Are you not amazed at Ibn Zubayr, taking his stand in this affair of his?"I said, "I have called myself to account on his behalf in a way I never did for Abu Bakr or Umar, though both of them were more deserving of every good than he is."I said, "He is the son of the Prophet's ﷺ paternal aunt, the son of Zubayr, the son of Abu Bakr, the nephew of Khadijah, and the nephew of Ayesha." Yet there he was, holding himself aloof from me and wanting nothing of what I offered. So I said, "I never thought I would offer this of myself only to have him reject it, and I do not see him intending any good. If I must be ruled, then to be ruled by my own cousins is dearer to me than being ruled by others."
