Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Dimad came to Mecca. He was from Azd Shanuah, and he used to recite incantations to treat afflictions caused by evil spirits. He heard some foolish people of Mecca saying that Muhammad was insane, so he said, "If only I could see this man, perhaps Allah would heal him through me."He met him and said, "Muhammad, I recite incantations for this kind of affliction, and Allah heals through me whomever He wills. Would you like me to do so?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "All praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him and seek His help. Whomever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whomever He leads astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. To proceed."Dimad said, "Repeat these words to me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeated them to him three times.Dimad said, "I have heard the words of soothsayers, the words of sorcerers, and the words of poets, but I have never heard anything like these words. They have reached the depths of the sea. Give me your hand so I may pledge allegiance to you upon Islam."So he pledged allegiance to him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "And on behalf of your people as well?"He said, "And on behalf of my people."Later, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and they passed by Dimad's people. The commander of the expedition asked the troops, "Did you take anything from these people?"A man from the group said, "I took a water vessel from them."The commander said, "Return it, for these are the people of Dimad."

Sahih
