Zinba al-Judhami had a slave named Sandar. Zinba found him kissing one of his slave-girls, so he castrated him and cut off his nose. Sandar went to the Prophet ﷺ, who summoned Zinba and said, "Do not burden them with what they cannot bear. Feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear. If you are pleased with them, keep them, and if you dislike them, sell them. Do not torture Allah's creation. Whoever mutilates a slave or burns him with fire, the slave is freed and is the freedman of Allah and His Messenger."So Sandar was set free.Sandar then said, "Recommend me to someone, Messenger of Allah."He replied, "I recommend you to every Muslim."When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, Sandar came to Abu Bakr and said, "Honor the recommendation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding me." Abu Bakr provided him with a regular allowance until Abu Bakr died. Then Sandar came to Umar bin Khattab and said, "Honor the recommendation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding me."Umar replied, "Yes. If you wish to stay with me, I will give you the same allowance Abu Bakr used to give you. Otherwise, choose a place you like and I will write a letter for you."Sandar said, "Egypt, for it is a fertile land."So Umar wrote on his behalf to Amr bin As, instructing him to honor the recommendation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding him. When Sandar arrived to Amr bin As, Amr allotted him a wide tract of land and a house, and Sandar lived there off the wealth of Allah. When he died, it was reclaimed.
Muhammad bin Saad narrated it in Tabaqat (7/506) from Kamil bin Talha, who said, Ibn Lahia informed us, who said, Amr bin Shuayb informed us, from his father, from his grandfather, who said, then he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Ibn Lahia, since he is criticized, except that he has been corroborated. Bayhaqi narrated it in Kubra (8/36) through another route from Muthanna bin Sabbah, from Amr bin Shuayb, with similar wording. Muthanna bin Sabbah al-Yamani is daif because his memory became confused, and the hadith of someone like him is recorded and used for support. This account has other routes as well, which strengthen one another.
