The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him in the market of Madinah selling some of his goods, and he had not come to visit him at that time. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ embraced him from behind his shoulders. Zahir bin Haram turned and recognized the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then kissed his hand.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out, "Who will buy this slave?"Zahir replied, "Messenger of Allah, you will find me unsellable."The Prophet ﷺ said, "But with Allah you are valuable."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every settled person has a desert companion, and the desert companion of the family of Muhammad is Zahir bin Haram."
أن رسول الله ﷺ رآه في سوق المدينة، يبيع سلعة له، ولم يكن أتاه- يعني في ذلك الوقت- فاحتضنه من وراء كتفه، فالتفت فأبصر رسول الله ﷺ فقبل كفه، فقال: من يشتري العبد؟ فقال: إذا تجدني يا رسول الله كاسدا، قال: لكنك عند الله ربيح فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لكل حاضر بادية، وبادية آل محمد زاهر بن حرام.

Bazzar reported it in Kashf Astar (2734), and Tabarani in Kabir (5/315), both through the route of Shadh bin Fayyad, who said, "Rafi bin Salama (he is Ibn Ziyad al-Ghatafani) narrated to us and said, 'I heard my father narrate from Salim (he is Ibn Abu Jaad), from a man of Ashjaa called Zahir bin Haram al-Ashjaee, who said, He was a bedouin who never came to the Prophet ﷺ without bringing some curiosity or a gift to present.'" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him, and then he related the hadith.Haythami said in Majma (9/369), "Bazzar and Tabarani reported it, and its narrators are trustworthy."Its isnad is hasan because of Shadh bin Fayyad, for his hadith is hasan.
