I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivering a sermon with Hasan bin Ali on his thigh, and he was saying, "I truly hope that this son of mine will be a leader, and I hope that Allah will reconcile two factions of my community through him."
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يخطب، والحسن بن علي على فخذه ويقول: إني لأرجو أن يكون ابني هذا سيدا، وإني لأرجو أن يصلح الله به بين فئتين من أمتي.
Nasai narrated it in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (253), and Bazzar in his Musnad (6664), both of them through Khalid bin Harith, who said, Ashath narrated to us, from Hasan (he is al-Basri), from one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, meaning Anas, who said, then he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Ashath (he is Ibn Abdullah bin Jabir), for he is hasan al-hadith. Haythami said in al-Majma (9/178), "Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."
