Jareer said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'Will you not relieve me of Dhul-Khalasah?' This was a house in Khathaam called the Yemeni Kaaba."He continued, "So I set out with one hundred and fifty horsemen from Ahmas, who were skilled riders. But I could not stay firm on a horse, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck me on the chest until I could see the mark of his fingers on my chest, and he said, 'O Allah, make him firm, and make him a guide who is rightly guided.'"So Jareer went to Dhul-Khalasah, demolished it, and burned it down. Then he sent a messenger to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to inform him.Jareer's messenger said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I did not come to you until I had left it like a mangy or hollow camel."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ blessed the horses of Ahmas and their men five times.
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ: ألا تريحني من ذي الخلصة؟ وكان بيتا في خثعم يسمى كعبة اليمانية، قال: فانطلقت في خمسين ومائة فارس من أحمس، وكانوا أصحاب خيل، قال: وكنت لا أثبت على الخيل، فضرب في صدري حتى رأيت أثر أصابعه في صدري، وقال: اللهم ثبته، واجعله هاديا مهديا فانطلق إليها فكسرها وحرقها، ثم بعث إلى رسول الله ﷺ يخبره فقال رسول جرير: والذي بعثك بالحق ما جئتك حتى تركتها كأنها جمل أجوف أو أجرب. قال: فبارك في خيل أحمس ورجالها خمس مرات.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Military Expeditions (3020), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2476-137), both through Ismail bin Abu Khalid, from Qays bin Abu Hazim, from Jareer bin Abdullah, who related it. This is Bukhari's wording, and Muslim's wording is similar. It contains, "So he burned it with fire," and it also contains, "Then Jareer sent a man to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to give him the good news, a man from us known by the kunya Abu Artaah." And in another wording, "So he prayed for us and for Ahmas." Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Ansar (3823) through another route, from Qays, from Jareer bin Abdullah, who said, and then related it.
