Rabi, the daughter of Nadr, broke the front tooth of a young woman. Her family sought the blood compensation, and the other party requested pardon, but they refused. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he ordered retaliation.Anas bin Nadr said, "Will Rabi's tooth be broken, Messenger of Allah? No, by the One who sent you with the truth, her tooth shall not be broken."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Anas, the Book of Allah prescribes retaliation."But the people then accepted compensation and pardoned her. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among the servants of Allah are those who, if they swear an oath by Allah, He fulfills it for them."
أن الربيع وهي ابنة النضر كسرت ثنية جارية، فطلبوا الأرش، وطلبوا العفو، فأبوا، فأتوا النبي ﷺ، فأمرهم بالقصاص، فقال أنس بن النضر: أتكسر ثنية الربيع يا رسول الله؟ لا والذي بعثك بالحق لا تكسر ثنيتها فقال: يا أنس، كتاب الله القصاص فرضي القوم وعفوا، فقال النبي ﷺ: إن من عباد الله من لو أقسم على الله لأبره.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Reconciliation (2703) from Muhammad bin Abdullah Ansari, who said, "Humayd told me that Anas narrated it to them," and then he related it. This is how Bukhari narrated it in several places in his book, stating that the incident happened to Rubayyi bint Nadr.However, Muslim narrated it in the Book of Retaliation and Combatants (24:1675) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, "Affan bin Muslim narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit informed us, from Anas, that the sister of Rubayyi, Umm Haritha, wounded someone, so they took their dispute to the Prophet ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Retaliation, retaliation." The mother of Rubayyi said, "O Messenger of Allah, will retaliation really be taken from so-and-so? By Allah, retaliation will not be taken from her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Glory be to Allah, O mother of Rubayyi, retaliation is prescribed in the Book of Allah." She said, "No, by Allah, retaliation will never be taken from her." He said, and she kept on until they accepted the blood money. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are some servants of Allah who, if they swear an oath to Allah, Allah fulfills it for them."This states that the incident happened to the sister of Rubayyi. Many scholars concluded that the mention of "sister" in Sahih Muslim is an error, while some held that the incident happened to both of them.
