Usayd bin Hudayr had a beautiful voice when reciting the Quran. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "While I was reciting on the roof of my house, with my wife in the room and my horse tied to the door of the room, suddenly something like a cloud overshadowed me. I feared the horse would trample my wife and frighten her, causing her to fall, so I stopped reciting."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Keep reciting, Usayd. That was an angel listening to the Quran."
Bazzar reported it in his Musnad (3209), and Firyabi in Fadail al-Quran (96), both through chains going back to Zuhri, from Abdul-Rahman bin Kaab bin Malik, from his father, who mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.
