I saw Ibrahim taking his last breaths in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ filled with tears. He said, "The eye sheds tears and the heart grieves, but we say only what pleases our Lord. By Allah, Ibrahim, we are deeply saddened by your loss."
رأيت إبراهيم وهو يكيد بنفسه بين يدي رسول الله ﷺ، فدمعت عينا رسول الله ﷺ فقال: تدمع العين، ويحزن القلب، ولا نقول إلا ما يرضى ربنا، والله يا إبراهيم إنا بك لمحزونون.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (2315) through Sulayman bin Mughira, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related it. This wording is his.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals (1303) through Quraysh bin Hayan, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related it similarly. He then said, Musa narrated it, from Sulayman bin Mughira, from Thabit, from Anas, from the Prophet ﷺ.His saying, "struggling with his soul," means he was giving it up, meaning he was in the throes of death.Ibrahim bin Muhammad, the son of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, died in the year ten, at eighteen months of age, and was buried in Baqi.
