The Prophet ﷺ was at her house when Fatimah brought him a pot containing a porridge-like dish called khazirah. She entered with it, and he said to her, "Call your husband and your two sons."She said, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn came and entered upon him, then sat eating from that khazirah. He was resting on a bedding placed on a bench, with a Khaybar cloak beneath him.She said, I was praying in the chamber when Allah revealed this verse, "Allah only wishes to remove all impurity from you, people of the household, and to purify you completely" [Ahzab 33:33].She said, He then took the extra portion of the cloak and wrapped it around them. Then he stretched out his hand, raised it toward the heavens, and said, "O Allah, these are the people of my household and those closest to me. Remove from them all impurity and purify them completely. O Allah, these are the people of my household and those closest to me. Remove from them all impurity and purify them completely."She said, I put my head into the room and said, "And am I with you, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "You are upon goodness. You are upon goodness."
Ahmad (26508) narrated it from Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, Abdul-Malik, meaning Ibn Abu Sulayman, narrated to us, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, who said, "Someone who heard Umm Salama narrated to me," and she said, and then he mentioned the hadith. Abdul-Malik said, "Abu Layla narrated to me from Umm Salama something similar to the hadith of Ata."Hakim (2/416) narrated it through another route from Sharik bin Abu Nimr, from Ata bin Yasar, from Umm Salama, in abridged form, and he said, "Sahih according to the standard of Bukhari," while Dhahabi said, "According to the standard of Muslim." I say, its chain of transmission is hasan because of Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman, for there is some discussion about his memory, but he has corroboration.Tirmidhi (3871) narrated it through another route from Shahr bin Hawshab, from Umm Salama, in abridged form. There is well-known discussion regarding Shahr bin Hawshab, but he is acceptable in corroborating narrations. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith, and it is among the best things narrated on this subject."What is meant by "the People of the House" here is in terms of lineage, whereas the purification of the People of the House from impurity encompasses both lineage and marriage relations together.
