The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the People of the Book, "Do not initiate the greeting of peace with them, and when you meet them on a road, force them to its narrowest part."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن سهيل بن أبي صالح عن أبيه
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال في أهل الكتاب لا تبدءوهم بالسلام وإذا لقيتموهم في طريق فاضطروهم إلى أضيقها
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Muslim narrated it (4/1707, no. 2167) in the chapter on greetings, on the prohibition against initiating the greeting of peace to the People of the Book, and Abu Dawud (4/352, no. 5205) in the chapter on manners, with the same wording, and Tirmidhi (4/154, no. 1602) in the chapter on seeking permission, on what has been said regarding the disapproval of greeting a dhimmi with the greeting of peace, and he said, hasan sahih.
