The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever says to a child, 'Come, take this,' and then does not give him anything, it counts as a lie."

Its chain of transmission is sahih, but it is disconnected, for Zuhri did not hear from Abu Hurairah. Abu Dawud narrated it 4/298, no. 4992, in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on lying. This hadith is an important pillar in teaching children and raising them upon truthfulness.
