The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque and heard a man reciting. He asked, "Who is this?"It was said, "Abdullah bin Qays."He said, "This man has been given one of the flutes of the family of Dawud."
حدثنا يزيد قال أخبرنا محمد عن أبي سلمة
دخل رسول الله ﷺ المسجد فسمع قراءة رجل فقال من هذا قيل عبد الله بن قيس فقال لقد أوتي هذا من مزامير آل داود
Its isnad is sahih. Nasai narrated it 2/181, no. 1020, in the chapter on the opening, beautifying the Quran with the voice, from Ayesha. Ibn Majah narrated it 1/425, no. 1341, in the chapter on establishing the prayer, having a good voice with the Quran. Darimi narrated it 2/565, no. 4299, and Ibn Hibban, 562, no. 2263.
