I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Were it not that I would cause hardship to my community, I would have commanded them to use the tooth-stick before every prayer, and I would have delayed the night prayer until the first third of the night had passed. For when the first third of the night passes, Allah the Exalted descends to the lowest heaven and remains there until dawn breaks. A caller proclaims, 'Is there anyone asking, that he may be given? Is there anyone calling upon Him, that he may be answered? Is there anyone sick seeking healing, that he may be healed? Is there any sinner seeking forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?'"
حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن محمد بن إسحاق حدثني سعيد بن أبي سعيد المقبري عن عطاء مولى أم صبية
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لولا أن أشق على أمتي لأمرتهم بالسواك عند كل صلاة ولأخرت عشاء الآخرة إلى ثلث الليل الأول فإنه إذا مضى ثلث الليل الأول هبط الله تعالى إلى السماء الدنيا فلم يزل هناك حتى يطلع الفجر فيقول قائل ألا سائل يعطى ألا داع يجاب ألا سقيم يستشفي فيشفى ألا مذنب يستغفر فيغفر له
