The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his uncle, "Say, 'There is no god but Allah,' and I will bear witness for you with it on the Day of Resurrection."He replied, "Were it not that the Quraysh would taunt me, saying that nothing led him to it but fear, I would have delighted you with it."So Allah revealed, "Indeed, you do not guide whom you love" [Qasas 28:56].
حدثنا يحيى عن يزيد يعني ابن كيسان قال حدثني أبو حازم
قال رسول الله ﷺ لعمه قل لا إله إلا الله أشهد لك بها يوم القيامة قال لولا أن تعيرني قريش يقولون إنما حمله على ذلك الجزع لأقررت بها عينك فأنزل الله عز وجل {إنك لا تهدي من أحببت}
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari related it, 2/119, in the Book of Funerals, chapter on when the polytheist says at death, "There is no god but Allah." And Muslim related it, 1/55 number 25, at the beginning of the Book of Faith, chapter on the proof of the validity of the Islam of one whom death approaches. And Tirmidhi related it, 5/341 number 3188, in the tafsir of Surah Qasas, and he said, hasan gharib.
