The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not let the bedouins overcome you regarding the name of your prayer."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن ابن عجلان عن سعيد
عن النبي ﷺ قال لا تغلبنكم أهل البادية على اسم صلاتكم
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari related it, 1/147, in "The Times of Prayer," in the chapter "Those Who Disliked Calling Isha by the Name Ashaa," and Muslim, 1/445, no. 644, in "Mosques," in the chapter on the time of Isha, both from Ibn Umar. Abu Dawud related it, 4/296, no. 4984, in "Manners," in the chapter on the prayer of Atmah, and Nasai, 1/470, no. 541, in the same manner as Bukhari. The meaning of the hadith is that it is not permissible to change the names of the prayers. The bedouins call Isha by the name Atmah, so it is not permissible to imitate them.
