I was sitting with Abu Hurairah when a man came to him with a question and said, "Abu Hurairah, did you forbid people from fasting on Friday?"He replied, "No, by the life of Allah, I did not. However, by the Lord of this sacred House, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'None of you should fast on Friday except as part of days he is already fasting.'"Then another man came and said, "Abu Hurairah, did you forbid people from praying in their sandals?"He replied, "No, by the life of Allah, I did not. However, by the Lord of this sacred House, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray facing this very station with his sandals on, then leave while still wearing them ﷺ."

كنت جالسا عند أبي هريرة فأتاه رجل فسأله فقال يا أبا هريرة أنت نهيت الناس أن يصوموا يوم الجمعة قال لا لعمر الله غير أني ورب هذه الحرمة لقد سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا يصومن أحدكم يوم الجمعة إلا في أيام يصومه فيها فجاء آخر فقال يا أبا هريرة أنت نهيت الناس أن يصلوا في نعالهم قال لا لعمر الله غير أني ورب هذه الحرمة لقد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يصلي إلى هذا المقام وإن عليه نعليه ثم انصرف وهما عليه ﷺ
Its isnad is daif, as it contains a narrator who is not named, but the hadith is sahih. It was narrated in similar form by Bukhari 2/54, in the chapter on fasting, fasting on Friday, and by Muslim 2/801, number 1144, in the chapter on fasting, the dislike of fasting on Friday alone, and by Abu Dawud 2/320, number 2420, and by Tirmidhi 3/110, number 743, who said, hasan sahih.
