The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to Ubayy bin Kaab while he was praying and said, "Ubayy."Ubayy turned but did not answer him. He then shortened his prayer and went over to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Peace be upon you, Messenger of Allah."The Prophet replied, "And upon you."He asked, "Ubayy, what kept you from answering me when I called you?"Ubayy said, "Messenger of Allah, I was in prayer."The Prophet said, "Did you not find in what Allah revealed to me, 'Respond to Allah and the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life' [Anfal 8:24]?"Ubayy said, "Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah. I will not do it again."The Prophet said, "Would you like me to teach you a surah the like of which has not been revealed in the Torah, nor in the Psalms, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Furqan?"Ubayy said, "I said, yes, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I hope you will not leave through this door until you learn it."Ubayy said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took my hand and began speaking with me, while I walked slowly, fearing that we would reach the door before he finished. When we drew near the door, I said, "Messenger of Allah, what is the surah you promised me?"He asked, "How do you recite in prayer?"So I recited to him the Mother of the Quran.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, Allah has not revealed in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Psalms, nor in the Furqan anything like it. It is the seven oft-repeated verses."
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن إبراهيم قال حدثنا العلاء بن عبد الرحمن عن أبيه
خرج رسول الله ﷺ على أبي بن كعب وهو يصلي فقال يا أبي فالتفت فلم يجبه ثم صلى أبي فخفف ثم انصرف إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال السلام عليك أي رسول الله قال وعليك قال ما منعك أي أبي إذ دعوتك أن تجيبني قال أي رسول الله كنت في الصلاة قال أفلست تجد فيما أوحى الله إلي أن {استجيبوا لله وللرسول إذا دعاكم لما يحييكم} قال قال بلى أي رسول الله لا أعود قال أتحب أن أعلمك سورة لم تنزل في التوراة ولا في الزبور ولا في الإنجيل ولا في الفرقان مثلها قال قلت نعم أي رسول الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ إني لأرجو أن لا تخرج من هذا الباب حتى تعلمها قال فأخذ رسول الله ﷺ بيدي يحدثني وأنا أتبطأ مخافة أن يبلغ قبل أن يقضي الحديث فلما أن دنونا من الباب قلت أي رسول الله ما السورة التي وعدتني قال فكيف تقرأ في الصلاة قال فقرأت عليه أم القرآن قال قال رسول الله ﷺ والذي نفسي بيده ما أنزل الله في التوراة ولا في الإنجيل ولا في الزبور ولا في الفرقان مثلها وإنها للسبع من المثاني
