Abu Hurairah reported,

While Umar bin Khattab was delivering the Friday sermon, a man came in. Umar asked, "Why are you late for the prayer?"The man replied, "I did nothing more than this. As soon as I heard the call to prayer, I performed ablution and came."Umar said, "Only ablution? Have you not heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When one of you goes to the Friday prayer, let him perform a full bath'?"

أن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه بينا هو يخطب يوم الجمعة إذ جاء رجل فقال عمر لم تحتبسون عن الصلاة فقال الرجل ما هو إلا أن سمعت النداء فتوضأت فقال أيضا أولم تسمعوا أن رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا راح أحدكم إلى الجمعة فليغتسل
