When the verse "And pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by those people who can find a way to it" was revealed, they said, "Messenger of Allah, is it every year?" He remained silent.They asked again, "Is it every year?" He remained silent.Then they asked once more, "Is it every year?"He replied, "No, and had I said yes, it would have become obligatory."So Allah the Exalted revealed "Believers, do not ask about matters which, if disclosed to you, would distress you" [Maidah 5:101] to the end of the verse.

لما نزلت هذه الآية {ولله على الناس حج البيت من استطاع إليه سبيلا} قالوا يا رسول الله أفي كل عام فسكت فقالوا أفي كل عام فسكت قال ثم قالوا أفي كل عام فقال لا ولو قلت نعم لوجبت فأنزل الله تعالى {يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تسألوا عن أشياء إن تبد لكم تسؤكم} إلى آخر الآية
