The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs ablution and does it well, then sets out and finds that the people have already prayed, Allah grants him a reward equal to that of those who prayed it or attended it, without diminishing their rewards in the slightest."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد قال حدثنا عبد العزيز بن محمد عن محمد بن طحلاء عن محصن بن علي عن عوف بن الحارث
قال رسول الله ﷺ من توضأ فأحسن وضوءه ثم راح فوجد الناس قد صلوا أعطاه الله مثل أجر من صلاها أو حضرها لا ينقص ذلك من أجورهم شيئا
Its chain is hasan. Muhsin bin Ali Fihri was deemed trustworthy by some and unknown by others, and in Taqrib he is described as mastur (of unclear status). Abu Dawud narrated it in 1/155, no. 564, and Nasai in 2/111, no. 855, in the chapter on leading prayer. Hakim also narrated it with the same wording in the chapter on leading prayer, 1/208-209, and graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
