Abu Bakr would lower his voice when reciting, while Umar would recite aloud, and Ammar would take a portion from one surah and a portion from another. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ.He asked Abu Bakr, "Why do you lower your voice?"Abu Bakr replied, "I am heard by the One I am addressing in private."He asked Umar, "Why do you raise your voice in your recitation?"Umar replied, "I drive away Satan and awaken the drowsy."He asked Ammar, "Why do you take from one surah and from another?"Ammar asked, "Have you heard me mix into it what is not part of it?"The Prophet ﷺ said, "No."Ammar said, "Then all of it is good."
حدثنا علي بن بحر حدثنا عيسى بن يونس حدثنا زكريا عن أبي إسحاق عن هانئ بن هانئ
كان أبو بكر رضي الله عنه يخافت بصوته إذا قرأ وكان عمر رضي الله عنه يجهر بقراءته وكان عمار رضي الله عنه إذا قرأ يأخذ من هذه السورة وهذه فذكر ذاك للنبي ﷺ فقال لأبي بكر رضي الله عنه لم تخافت قال إني لأسمع من أناجي وقال لعمر رضي الله عنه لم تجهر بقراءتك قال أفزع الشيطان وأوقظ الوسنان وقال لعمار ولم تأخذ من هذه السورة وهذه قال أتسمعني أخلط به ما ليس منه قال لا قال فكله طيب
