I was Abu Hurayrah's guest for seven nights. He, his wife, and his servant would divide the night into three shifts. One would pray, then wake the next, who would pray and then sleep and wake the third.I said, "Abu Hurayrah, how do you fast?"He replied, "As for me, I fast three days at the beginning of the month. If something happens to prevent me, it counts as the end of my month."I also heard Abu Hurayrah say, "One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed dates among his companions, and I received seven dates, one of which was dry and shriveled. Yet none of them pleased me more than that one, for it was the toughest to chew."
حدثنا يونس حدثنا حماد يعني ابن زيد عن العباس بن فروخ الجريري قال سمعت
تضيفت أبا هريرة سبعا فكان هو وامرأته وخادمه يعتقبون الليل أثلاثا يصلي هذا ثم يوقظ هذا ويصلي هذا ثم يرقد ويوقظ هذا قال قلت يا أبا هريرة كيف تصوم قال أما أنا فأصوم من أول الشهر ثلاثا فإن حدث لي حادث كان آخر شهري قال وسمعت أبا هريرة يقول قسم رسول الله ﷺ يوما بين أصحابه تمرا فأصابني سبع تمرات إحداهن حشفة وما فيهن شيء أعجب إلي منها أنها شدت مضاغي
