A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, teach me a deed that equals jihad."He replied, "I cannot find one."Then he said, "Can you, when the warrior goes out to fight, enter a mosque and stand in prayer without pause, and fast without breaking your fast?"The man said, "I am not able to do that."Abu Hurairah said, "Even the warrior's horse, prancing about on its tether, earns him good deeds."

جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله علمني عملا يعدل الجهاد قال لا أجده قال هل تستطيع إذا خرج المجاهد أن تدخل مسجدا فتقوم لا تفتر وتصوم لا تفطر قال لا أستطيع قال قال أبو هريرة إن فرس المجاهد يستن في طوله فيكتب له حسنات
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari and Muslim narrated it with a similar meaning, and its wording is, it was said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is equivalent to jihad in the path of Allah?" He said, "You would not be able to do it." They repeated the question to him two or three times, and each time he said, "You would not be able to do it." Then he said, "The example of the one who performs jihad in the path of Allah is like the example of the one who fasts and stands in prayer with the verses of Allah, never slackening in prayer or fasting, until the one performing jihad in the path of Allah returns." Agreed upon."La yaftur" means he weakens. "Al-fatrah" is breaking down and weakness. It is said "fatara al-harru" and the like, from the pattern of "dakhala."
