I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "If your lives are prolonged, you will soon see people who go out in the morning under the wrath of Allah and return in the evening under the curse of Allah, carrying in their hands what resembles the tails of cattle."
Ibn Jawzi mentioned this hadith in Mawdu'at with the chain of the Musnad, and quoted Ibn Hibban as saying that this report is false, and that Aflah used to narrate fabrications from trustworthy narrators. Muslim recorded this hadith from a group of his teachers on the authority of Abu Amir Aqadi, and he also recorded it through another route. Ibn Hajar said, "I have not come across anything in Ibn Jawzi's Mawdu'at that he ruled to be fabricated while it is found in one of the Sahihayn, other than this hadith, and this was due to severe carelessness on his part. The Aflah mentioned here is known as Qabbani, a Madinan from the people of Quba, a trustworthy and well-known narrator. Ibn Main and Ibn Saad both deemed him trustworthy. Ibn Main also said, along with Nasai, 'There is no harm in him.' Abu Hatim said he was a sound narrator in hadith. Muslim recorded from him in his Sahih. Abdullah bin Mubarak and those of his generation narrated from him. I have found no remarks about him from the earlier scholars, except that Aqeeli said Ibn Mahdi did not raise it to the level of a marfu narration."Ibn Hajar said, "This is not a defect." Ibn Hibban was careless and listed him in the fourth rank of trustworthy narrators. Ibn Jawzi erred gravely in following Ibn Hibban blindly on this point.Hakim also graded it sahih in Mustadrak through the route of Aflah, and he graded it sahih through the route of Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurairah. Bayhaqi recorded it in Dala'il Nubuwwah through the route of Hasan bin Sufyan, from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr, and it is as he said.Ibn Hajar said, "Ibn Jawzi indeed did wrong by including in Mawdu'at a hadith from Sahih Muslim."
