The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah's anger burns fiercely against a people who did this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and as he spoke he was pointing to his broken tooth.
وقال رسول الله ﷺ اشتد غضب الله عز وجل على قوم فعلوا برسول الله ﷺ وهو حينئذ يشير إلى رباعيته
[Shakir: 8198(A)] A sahih hadith. Muslim reported it in volume 5, page 179, in the chapter on military campaigns, from Muhammad bin Rafi, and Bukhari reported it in the chapter on military campaigns from Ishaq bin Nasr. His saying "in the path of Allah" is meant to exclude one who is killed under a legal penalty or in retaliation, because the one killed in the path of Allah was intending to kill the Prophet ﷺ.8198(bis) - He said, "The anger of Allah is fierce against a man whom the Messenger of Allah kills in the path of Allah" [105].
