The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so differ from them."Abdul-Razzaq mentioned in his narration that Zuhri said, "As for the matter of dyes, the darkest of them is most preferred to us."Muamar said that Zuhri used to dye his hair with black.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر وعبد الأعلى عن معمر عن الزهري عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن اليهود والنصارى لا يصبغون فخالفوهم قال عبد الرزاق في حديثه قال الزهري والأمر بالأصباغ فأحلكها أحب إلينا قال معمر وكان الزهري يخضب بالسواد
Both of its chains of transmission are sahih. This has already appeared at 7533, transmitted by Abdul-Ala from Mamar, and it has also already appeared with another sahih chain at 7272. We noted this there. See also 7536.
