Rabi bin Harash reported,

Ali bin Abu Talib stood up to deliver a sermon in the open courtyard. He praised Allah and glorified Him, then said what Allah willed him to say. Then he called for a jug of water, rinsed his mouth from it, wiped himself, and drank what remained in the jug while standing. Then he said, "It has reached me that some of you dislike drinking while standing. This is the ablution of one who has not broken his ablution, and I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do exactly this."

حدثنا عبد الله حدثنا أبو عبيدة بن فضيل بن عياض وقال لي هو اسمي وكنيتي حدثنا مالك بن سعير يعني ابن الخمس حدثنا فرات بن أحنف حدثنا أبي

أن علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه قام خطيبا في الرحبة فحمد الله وأثنى عليه ثم قال ما شاء الله أن يقول ثم دعا بكوز من ماء فتمضمض منه وتمسح وشرب فضل كوزه وهو قائم ثم قال بلغني أن الرجل منكم يكره أن يشرب وهو قائم وهذا وضوء من لم يحدث ورأيت رسول الله ﷺ فعل هكذا
