The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade urinating into stagnant water and then performing ablution from it.
حدثنا زيد بن الحباب أخبرنا معاوية بن صالح قال قال سمعت أبا مريم يذكر
أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى أن يبال في الماء الراكد ثم يتوضأ منه
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Mariam, among the biographical entries at this level there are four individuals. Bukhari included biographies of three of them under the kunyas section, 636, 637, 639. He said, Abu Mariam Ansari, from Jabir bin Abdullah... said by Abu Salih, from Muawiya. Abu Mariam, freedman of Abu Hurairah, heard from Abu Hurairah. Muawiya bin Abu Salih narrated from him, and said, "Kingship belongs to Quraysh." Abu Mariam, servant of the masjid of Damascus, from Abu Hurairah, Hurayz narrated from him.Ibn Abu Hatim gave biographies of these three at 2/4/436-37, entries 2185, 2186, 2187, treating the first of them as separate from the other two. Regarding the latter two, he said, "Bukhari made this Abu Mariam and the one mentioned earlier, the freedman of Abu Hurairah, into two separate people, but I heard my father say, this one and the freedman of Abu Hurairah are one and the same." So it seems he leans toward separating the first, the Ansari, from the others. Before that, in the names section 288/2/2, he gave a biography of Abdul-Rahman bin Maiz, Abu Mariam Shami, servant of the masjid of Hims, who narrated from Abu Hurairah, and from whom Yahya bin Abu Amr Saybani narrated. What I consider most likely, and am nearly certain of, is that these four biographical entries refer to one and the same man, since the differences between them are minor. Whatever the case, he was a follower whose identity is known, and Ahmad and Ajli both affirmed his reliability, and no one criticized him. This hadith will come again with similar wording at 9104, narrated by Musa bin Abu Uthman from his father, from Abu Hurairah. Its meaning is established in the Sahihayn and elsewhere, in the form of a prohibition, "let him not urinate." This has already been mentioned at 7517, 7518, 7592.
