A mule was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We said, "Messenger of Allah, what if we were to mate donkeys with our horses so they would produce mounts like this one?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Only those who do not know do such a thing."
حدثنا هاشم حدثنا ليث يعني ابن سعد عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي الخير عن عبد الله بن زرير الغافقي
أهديت لرسول الله ﷺ بغلة فقلنا يا رسول الله لو أنا أنزينا الحمر على خيلنا فجاءتنا بمثل هذه فقال رسول الله ﷺ إنما يفعل ذلك الذين لا يعلمون

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Hashim is Ibn Qasim. Yazid bin Abu Habib the Egyptian is trustworthy. Layth bin Saad said, "Yazid bin Abu Habib is our master and our scholar." Abul-Khayr is Marthad bin Abdullah Al-Yazani, with the ya and the za both having a fatha and followed by a nun. He is trustworthy, possessed of merit and devotion, and he was the mufti of the people of Egypt in his time. See 776.
