He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed either Dhuhr or Asr and gave the closing salam after two rakahs, then he left. The people who hurried out said, "The prayer has been shortened."Dhul Shimalayn asked, "Has the prayer been shortened, or did you forget?"The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is Dhul Yadayn saying?"They replied, "He has spoken the truth."So he led them in the two rakahs he had left out, then performed two prostrations while seated, after giving the salam.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن أيوب عن ابن سيرين
قال صلى رسول الله ﷺ الظهر أو العصر فسلم في الركعتين ثم انصرف فخرج سرعان الناس فقالوا خففت الصلاة فقال ذو الشمالين أخففت الصلاة أم نسيت فقال النبي ﷺ ما يقول ذو اليدين قالوا صدق فصلى بهم الركعتين اللتين ترك ثم سجد سجدتين وهو جالس بعد ما سلم
Its isnad is sahih. It has already appeared as 7370 through the narration of Ibn Uyayna, from Ayub, from Ibn Sirin, with similar wording, with some addition and omission. It has likewise already appeared as 7200 through the narration of Ibn Adi, from Ibn Awn, from Ibn Sirin. It has also already appeared in abridged form as 7153, with the same meaning, through other routes from Abu Hurairah.
