The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no faraa and no ateerah." The faraa was the firstborn of the livestock, which they used to slaughter for their idols.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن ابن المسيب
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا فرع ولا عتيرة والفرع أول النتاج كان ينتج لهم فيذبحونه
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Something similar to it has already passed at 7135 and 7255, through two other routes from Zuhri, with the same content. Neither of them contains the addition found here regarding the tafsir of the "farii."Muslim reported it, 2:121, from Muhammad bin Rafi and Abd bin Humayd, both of them from Abdul-Razzaq, with this same chain. He mentioned the tafsir of the "farii" as being from the narration of Muhammad bin Rafi alone.Bukhari reported it, 9:515-517, from Ibn Madini, from Ibn Uyayna, from Zuhri, with the same content, and said at the end, "He said, the 'farii' was the firstborn of their livestock, they used to slaughter it for their idols, and the 'atirah' was in Rajab."The Hafiz noted that the identity of this speaker was not clearly determined. He then mentioned that in Muslim's narration, through the route of Abdul-Razzaq from Maamar, it appears connected to the hadith itself. That is the narration found here.He then said, "Abu Qurrah reported the hadith in his Sunan from Abdul-Majid bin Abu Rawwad, from Maamar, and stated explicitly in his narration that the tafsir of the 'farii' and the 'atirah' comes from the statement of Zuhri."I say, this is likewise established in what will come later in the Musnad at 10361, stating explicitly that it is from the speech of Zuhri, in the narration of Ahmad from Muhammad bin Jafar from Maamar from Zuhri. His statement "an-nitaj" (offspring), it is with a kasrah on the nun, followed by a light ya, and ending with a jim.His statement "yuntaju lahum" (born to them), the Hafiz said, with a dammah on the first letter and a fathah on the third, it is said "nutijat an-naqah" (the she-camel gave birth), with a dammah on the nun and a kasrah on the ya, meaning she delivered offspring. This verb is never used except in this form, even though it is being attributed to an active subject, meaning even when it is connected to the doer, because despite that attribution, it can only take the passive form.See what has already passed in the Musnad of Abdullah bin Amr bin As at 6713.
