The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah Almighty said, "Let none of you say, 'What a disappointing time!' for I am Time itself. I alternate its night and day, and when I will, I shall seize them both."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن ابن المسيب
عن النبي ﷺ قال إن الله تعالى قال لا يقل أحدكم يا خيبة الدهر فإني أنا الدهر أقلب ليله ونهاره فإذا شئت قبضتهما
Its isnad is sahih. It is a repetition of 7769, with this same isnad, in similar wording to this. It is also a repetition of 7244, with a similar meaning, but that version does not contain the phrase, "and if you wish, you may take both of them."This phrase is also found in Mustadrak 2:453, where it is narrated through Ishaq bin Ibrahim Dabari, from Abdul-Razzaq, with this isnad, and he said, "This is a hadith that is sahih according to the criteria of both of them, though they did not include it in this form." Dhahabi agreed with him, though there is no basis for treating it as something they missed. Muslim narrated it in 2:196 from Abd bin Humayd, from Abdul-Razzaq, with this isnad, and with the same wording found in Hakim's version. We have already referred to Muslim's version at 7669.This phrase is also found in another, longer narration of this hadith, which Hakim also narrated before that other version, through Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Zuhri, with this isnad. Hakim said, "The two sheikhs agree on including this hadith of Zuhri, though not in this exact wording, and it is sahih according to the criteria of both of them."
