The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have been sent with comprehensive speech, and I have been granted victory through awe. While I was sleeping, the keys to the treasures of the earth were brought and placed in my hand."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari (13:209) narrated it through Ibrahim bin Saad, from Ibn Shihab, with this same chain, with an addition at the end from the words of Abu Hurairah. It will come again at 7620 through the narration of Mamar from Zuhri, with that same addition. Bukhari also narrated it at 6:90, 12:344–345, 353, as did Muslim at 1:147, and Nasai at 2:5352, through various routes from Zuhri. Bukhari said at 13:353, after narrating the hadith, Muhammad said, "It has reached me that the comprehensive words mean that Allah gathers together the many matters that used to be written in the earlier scriptures under a single matter or two matters, or something similar to that." The Hafiz noted that this explanation is from the words of Zuhri, not from the words of Bukhari. See also 7068 and 7397."I was given keys" appears in H and M as "keys," without the letter ba, and we have adopted what appears in K, since it agrees with what is established in Jami al-Masanid wal-Sunan (7:161) regarding this passage from the Musnad, and since it agrees with the rest of the narrations. As for "so it was placed [in] my hand," the word "in" was not mentioned in H and M, and it was noted in the margin of M that it likewise appears in another copy, but it is established in K and in Jami al-Masanid, and for that reason we have added it here.
