The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave me as I have left you. Those who came before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreements with their prophets. So when I forbid you from something, avoid it, and when I command you to do something, do as much of it as you are able."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا محمد عن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج
قال رسول الله ﷺ ذروني ما تركتكم فإنما هلك الذين من قبلكم بسؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم فإذا نهيتكم عن الشيء فاجتنبوه وإذا أمرتكم بالشيء فأتوا منه ما استطعتم
Its isnad is sahih, and it is a repetition of 73610, where we detailed its sourcing. It is also found in Sahih Ibn Hibban, in our edition, number 17.
